SENATOR WRIGHT SECURES FUNDING FOR URBAN MISSION’S PLANS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS

Senator James Wright (R,C, I- Watertown), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications, announced today that he has secured $70,000 in state funds for the Watertown Urban Mission. The money, available through the New York State Power Authority’s Energy Efficiency Program, will be used by the Urban Mission for energy efficiency improvements to the organization’s new facility.

“This money will go a long way in helping the Urban Mission cut operating costs,” Senator Wright said. “This non-profit organization provides support to people in the community with limited resources. With these opportunities for savings, the Urban Mission will have more funds available for serving the community.”

“These energy efficiency improvements will help the Urban Mission conserve money on energy costs, which will enable us to increase both the number of people we can serve and the types of services we can provide,” said Mary Morgan, Executive Director of the Watertown Urban Mission. “We bought a building that needs a lot of work, and this grant is just what we needed to help us begin making those improvements.”

“The Watertown Urban Mission is an essential part of the city’s meeting the needs of those who are facing challenges of life,” said Fred Garry, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Watertown and Vice President of the Watertown Mission Board. “Senator Wright’s commitment to the Urban Mission continues to strengthen the organization’s efforts in serving the community. This grant is a great reflection of his leadership and what he brings to the North Country.”

With this grant, the Watertown Urban Mission plans to install high efficiency rooftop heating and cooling units and make lighting improvements.
