SENATOR WRIGHT SECURES FUNDING FOR SACKETS HARBOR

Infrastructure Funding to Address Long-standing Flooding Issues In Village

Senator Jim Wright (R-C-I Watertown) today announced that he has secured $500,000 in Senate funds for the Village of Sackets Harbor. Specifically, the funds are earmarked for infrastructure upgrades relating to historical flooding problems in various areas of the Village.

"I am pleased to help provide this funding for the Village," said Senator Wright. "The upgrades will not only mitigate ongoing run-off issues for existing village residents, but will create the infrastructure support necessary for future development in Sackets Harbor."

The Hamilton Storm Water project is designed to provide relief to the reoccurring flooding experienced by the homes and businesses along North Main, Monroe, and Hamilton Streets, and also Dodge Avenue. The village experiences extreme flooding during heavy rains and Spring thaw. In addition to providing floodwater relief, the project will remove the significant amounts of storm water that enter the Village’s sanitary sewer system, and in turn cause its lift station and treatment plant to overflow.

"Obviously we are grateful to Senator Wright for helping the Village correct a long-standing problem. These upgrades will help encourage additional growth and assist in expanding the tax base in our community," said Village of Sackets Harbor Mayor Michael Hoagland.

Barry Ormsby, County Legislator, added, "We are very pleased to have this state assistance for the storm water project. The improvements will allow us to enhance our current infrastructure and build a solid foundation for the future."

Senator Wright secured this capital funding as part of the state budget.
